About Wood Havens Bird Feeders I use recommendations by the National Wildlife Federation in order to build the best feeder possible. All feeders are also field tested, to ensure they actually attract birds. If you would prefer a feeder in a different color, I do take custom orders. All prices are in U.S. dollars. All feeders above take seed, except for the Oriole Feeder. Stock your feeder with the seed recommended for the birds found in your area. Tip: I've found that squirrels don't seem to like safflower seeds (at least in my area). Using them in your feeder may help keep the squirrels away.
You should clean your bird feeder once a month, in order to prevent avian disease. To clean your feeder, discard all old seed and hulls. Gently pat the inside and outside of the feeder with a rag soaked in bleach solution. The solution should be nine parts water to one part bleach. Rinse all surfaces thoroughly (do not immerse), and allow to dry. You can apply a surface protectant once per year to prevent weathering. Lightly spray the outside of the feeder with exterior spar urethane, following the product directions. One coat should be sufficient. Exterior spar urethane may be purchased at most hardware stores.
